<p>This incredible vivid print is of <a title="Stonewall Motel Sign - Denver Colorado" href="http://www.retroroads.com/2010/03/stonewall-motel-denver/" target="_self">another old motel sign</a> on Colfax Avenue in Denver, Colorado.  Apparently there&#8217;s  a good bit of local history tied up in this one.  Local Boxer, Eddie Bohn, opened a restaurant called the Pig &#8216;N Whistle here in 1926 on the birthday of his friend, Jack Dempsey.  It became the restaurant for athletes to dine locally.  In the 1930&#8217;s, the restaurant expanded to include a motel.  The restaurant closed in 1991 shortly before the death of Bohn, but the motel remains open today.</p>
<p>Check out all the neon in this classic old sign!  The paint colors have weathered significantly, but it just adds to that strong vintage feel.  A really wonderful capture of a fantastic old sign from yesteryear!</p>

<div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: left;">
The sign was <a title="Las vegas Sign Designer" href="http://classiclasvegas.squarespace.com/classic-las-vegas-blog/2008/5/26/viva-las-vegas-neon.html" target="_blank">apparently designed by Betty Willis</a> an iconic designer of neon signs in Las Vegas.</div>
<div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: left;"></div>
<div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: left;">In this particular image, the designer has superimposed the already fanciful design of this motel sign over a NASA Hubble space telescope image.  Given the space motif of googie, this is especially appropriate.  And perfect for a venerable Vegas motel as well.  A really great piece of art!</div>

<div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: left;">Excellent pop art collage featuring a vintage motel sign.  The Palms Motor Hotel is in Portland, Oregon, and sits beside Highway 99.  The Palms opened in 1954 and it doesn&#8217;t look like the sign has changed since!</div>
<div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: left;"></div>
<div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: left;">The car looks to be a roughly early 1960s Chevrolet Impala (comments welcome from the car buffs!).</div>
<div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: left;"></div>
<div style="line-height: 150%; text-align: left;">This image definitely draws together some great mid-century modern imagery and style.  A real piece of Americana suitable for a great conversation piece in your home.</div>
